Magnolia Plantation birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday birdwalks at Magnolia
Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of Charleston,
SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A fee is charged.

August 17, 2003
53 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
10 Pied-billed Grebes some babies, 10 Least Bitterns, 2 Black-crowned Night
Herons, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 1 Mississippi kite, 1 Osprey, 1
Red-shouldered Hawk, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 1 Juvenile Broad-winged Hawk, 100
Common Moorhens babies, 8 Least Sandpipers, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 1 Belted
Kingfisher, 10 Eastern Kingbirds, 3 Eastern Bluebirds, 1 Yellow Warbler, 2
American Redstart, and 2 Indigo Buntings.

August 24, 2003
52 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were; 12 Least
Bitterns some babies, 2 White Ibis, 1 Glossy Ibis, 1 juvenile Cooper's Hawk,
100 Common Moorhens with babies, 3 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 2 Pileated
Woodpeckers, 6 Great-crested Flycatchers, 3 Eastern Kingbirds, 10 Red-eyed
Vireos, 1 Yellow Warbler, 6 Blue Grosbeaks, 4 Indigo Buntings, and 1 Painted
Bunting.

August 31, 2003
56 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
10 Pied-billed Grebes some babies, 8 Least Bitterns, 1 Black-crowned Night
Heron, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 2 Wood Storks, 120 Wood Ducks, 40
Common Moorhens many babies, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 30 Eastern Kingbirds,
20 American Robins, 10 Blue Grosbeaks, 20 Indigo Buntings, and 2 Painted
Buntings.
