Cooper's

This morning, sitting on my porch with my wife after a morning of birding at
Lake Crabtree, I suddenly saw every bird in the yard disappear (and there
had been a LOT of goldfinches/other feeder birds). I instinctively looked
for something predatory, and sure enough, a COOPER'S HAWK flushed out of my
Sycamore in pursuit of something small. The pursuit took both birds over my
next door neighbor's yard, over the street, and into the next set of yards,
then the little something managed to evade his pursuer, who returned,
defeated, to a perch at the back of my yard. The bird turned out to be a
juvenile, and although such things are hard to judge without another
individual for comparison, this bird appeared plenty large enough that I am
pretty sure it was a female.

Quite a nice sight!

Good birding,
