I have to agree with Nathan on this. The location is improbable and details too sketchy.
Another mystery about this report: two observers saw a SINGLE bird on Friday, Oct. 3, which they felt strongly enough about to report as a Curlew Sandpiper, but it was reported indirectly, by a third party who didn't see the bird in question. A follow-up email by one of the observers clearly indicates a SINGLE bird. However, the handwritten note in the bird log at HBSP appears to have been left by someone other than the original observers and this note refers to TWO (2) Curlew Sandpipers seen by Jack and Bob. An innocent typo apparently? Premonition?
Then, on Saturday, Oct. 4, two different observers reported TWO (2) Curlew Sandpipers from the same location, but without details.
Perhaps any or all of the observers of these bird(s) could provide some clarification and details. There is very little documentation for this species in SC, and it's hardly an identification to be tossed off lightly.
