Magnolia Plantatiion birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday morning birdwalks at
Magnolia Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of
Charleston, SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A fee is charged which lets
you into the plantation for the whole day.  There are many things to do for
this fee and others, including the birdwalk that require an additional small
fee.

October 26, 2003

58 species were seen and/or heard (H) on a nice day.  The most interesting
were; 100+ Pied-billed Grebes, 4 White Ibis, 6 Glossy Ibis, 60 Wood Ducks,
100 Green-winged Teal, 200 Blue-winged Teal, 2 Gadwalls, 2 Ospreys, 1
Northern Harrier, 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 2 Red-shouldered Hawks, 10 Clapper
Rails, 4 Virginia Rails (H), 8 Soras (H), 40 American Coots, 3 Dunlin, 1
Common Snipe, 2 Caspian Terns, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 4 Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers, 1 Marsh Wren, 2 Eastern Bluebirds, and 1 White-throated Sparrow.

November 2, 2003

60 species were seen and/or heard (H) on a nice day.  The most interesting
were; 50 Pied-billed Grebes, 1 Green Heron, 1 Black-crowned Night Heron, 100
Green-winged Teal, 400 Blue-winged Teal, 1 Osprey, 1 adult Bald Eagle, 2
Northern Harriers, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 1 Cooper's Hawk, 4 Red-shouldered
Hawks, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 1 American Kestrel, 5 Clapper Rails (H), 6
Virginia Rails (H), 10 Soras (H), 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, 10 Marsh
Wrens, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 6 Eastern Bluebirds, 200+ American Robins, 1
Gray Catbird, 1 Brown Thrasher, 1 Loggerhead Shrike, and 3 White-throated
Sparrows.
