Thinking Ahead...

So we've talked a whole lot about mp3s (and we're gonna talk some more,
too), and we've touched on DVDs a little bit. My question is the
following: what's gonna happen when/if (but probably WHEN) people start
downloading movies and copying them to VHS and watching them at home for
free as much as people do now with mp3s?

Has the movie industry, in planning for the future, played a role in
this mp3 controversy? If somehow the mp3 situation does not get
resolved in the next few years, the movie industry could be facing a
nightmare...I was just wondering if any of you knew of any info about
precautions Hollywood might be taking.

If I was in Hollywood, I'd be praying that the RIAA will win the mp3
controversy. If somehow the controversy doesn't get settled soon, it
could be the end of Blockbuster Video and all its cousins. No, probably
not, but settling the mp3 issue will save us from future controversies.

My point here is that this mp3 deal is going to set a huge precedent for
what's going to be legal in the future. And I wah-wah-wah-wah- wonder
how concerned the movie industry (and other industries??) are about it
all.
