The Second Sunday Readings Series was founded in 1992 by Doris Betts, and its aim was to bring to Chapel Hill a variety of writers with roots in North Carolina. In 1996, she handed over the maintenance of the series (including rounding up writers and giving introductions) to Michael McFee. The second Sunday of each month during the school year, admirers of North Carolina literature convene in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of Wilson Library at 2:30 to listen to about an hour of reading, typically given by two authors of different genres. The readings take place only when classes are in session, so that there are typically no readings in December or March, as classes are out for Winter and Spring breaks. Following are lists of the readers for each year thus far.
