I hope you're not extending this guarantee to me!  I don't even hit top
gear in my car until 65mph.  I would seriously doubt that doing 2000 RPM
at 65mph will give me worse gas mileage than driving 3000 RPM at 55mph.

Gas mileage is FAR more dependent on the character of the driving being
done than on the speed.  I get about 30mpg on my trips to Myrtle Beach,
when I'm consistently driving 80-85mph for all of the trip except the
stretch through Virginia.  My normal commute, on the other hand, nets me
about 25mpg.

Of course, I missed the thread a few months ago, so I maybe pummelling
a deceased equine.
