travel, at a tangent

We Are Family

I reckon that guy (go down to the posting below) was more than happy with Episode One, Season Five of The Sopranos - I know I was. Here in SF, where meaningful relationships are what you have with inanimate objects or illicit substances (uh, hang on, is pot, like, illegal?), and reality is an entirely relative concept, many people are closer to The Family than they are to their own. I speak from experience - after an absence of more than 20 months, I REJOICED at the sound of Carmella's nasal whine, Dr Melfi's 'Kim Carnes' rasp, Tony's cringe-worthy jokes. AJ's perma-sulk. It's fair to say that Meadow has more emotional depth, more of a sense of insight, a greater sense of the world around her than many "real" Californians do. Sorry, California, but you know this is true. That's why half the muscle-boys here are so high on crystal they can't get it up, why the yoga studios, meditation rooms, spiritual communiities etc. are busy busy busy. San Francisco is the last refuge of western "culture" before you hit the Pacific, and then it's on to Asia, where stuff really happens...
