Aside Bar

Jennifer Small EvertBy Jennifer Small Evert

It doesn't seem like it has been two years since I assumed my duties as managing editor of News Library News. But you know what they say - time flies when you're having fun! In the post-conference edition, there will be a new editor. I will let that individual introduce himself or herself in June. I feel confident that I am leaving this great publication in highly competent hands.

Over the past two years, I have tried to continue to add useful features to NLN. I think that the library profiles as well as the columns on research, small libraries and technology have been well received additions to the regular features in NLN, like Notes from the Chair and the great People column. People was edited by Jeff Graveline for more than two years and, you will notice in this issue, is now being edited by Kate Bird of the Vancouver Sun and The Province.

I would like to personally thank all of those individuals who have been so great about providing me with regular columns over the past two years: Marcia MacVane, Kathy Foley, Jalyn Kelley, Laura Mann, Catherine Kitchell, Jeff Graveline, Carol Campbell, Ginny Everett and, most recently, Kate Bird. Without these folks, getting this publication out on a timely basis would be next to impossible.

I am most proud of the developments we have made in the online version of News Library News. Great thanks must go out to the webmistress - Andrea Wilson (now Diconi). The web provides a great place for posting NLN because of the limitless white space and the quick turnaround time to publication. I hope that this edition continues to expand.

I will close by making one last plea for input from the Division. Take advantage of this publication and volunteer your ideas for useful content. If you're really feeling generous volunteer some time to take on a regular column. The members of the News Division will appreciate it. Finally, serving as managing editor has been a learning experience every step of the way but it is one I have thoroughly enjoyed. See everyone in Philadelphia!
