WHY THE INORDINATE
DELAY?
"vuRAmiyOdEa vuRREAn AkkAdhoyindhadhu, nAdu thirundha, nacchup
poiga Agamaikku, prabhandham thalaikatta, vEAr chUduvar maNpaRRu pOleA ennum
avaRRilum, "ini, ini" enRu irupadhinkAl kUppidum, Arthi adhigAra pUrthikku,
ennumadhu mukyam"
AzhwAr commenced with thiu-virutham
"poi ninRa gnAnam...ini yAm vuRAmai.." expressing his distaste in this world and
desire to attain Him. The Lord who is supreme could have removed the hurdles and
have granted AzhwAr the salvation then and there instantaneosly. Why was this
not done?
The prominent reasons for the delay
are:
a. nAdu
thirutha: To rectify the other souls in this world. The Lord
had Himself taken incarnations. He had followed several methods. Still the souls
did not completely educated. To rectify and rescue them, AzhwAr was left in this
world.
"vUrum, nAdum vulagamum, thannaip
pOle, avandaiya pEArum ,thArgaLumEa pidhaRRa" thiru-voi-mozhi
6-7-2;
b. nacchup
poigai AgAmaikku: If AzhwAr is granted salvation immediately on
surrender, it will set a bad precedence in the sense that, it will propogate
wrong signals that if sombody surrenders unto Him, they have to vanish from this
world forthwith. This is akin to a person entering a poisonous pond. To avoid
this, a dealy is warranted.
c. prabhandham thali-katta: To get the prabhandham, the
great thiru-voi-mozhi, the magnum-opus, the bhagavadh vishayam, rendered by
swAmi nam-AzhwAr. To reap the fruits of this prabhandham by not only the world,
us but by the Great Almighty Himself.
d. The
attachment of the Lord towards the physicique of AzhwAr: The Lord
Almighty's immense affection towards AzhwAr permeated as affection even towards
AzhwAr-s physcial embodiment. Hence, a further detention in this world was
necessitated out of the affection towards AzhwAr's physical
thiru-mEani..
e.'ini, ini':The primary reason however being to breed
and harbour the tendency or attitude of "eagerness" or "longingness" to reach
Him. AzhwAr has explicitly expressed this in twenty thiru-voi-mozhi-s " ini " irupadhu.
