Day or Night?

Apart from other factors, lighting is the primary criteria distinguishing the day from the night. The natural sunlight does not  have any replacemnet and this phenomenon gives the daylight a distinct mark over the night.

Earlier days did not have power generation systems nor grids for generaion, transmission or distribution of power. ( No I am neither talking of ntpc or potential problem of California State) .

The divya-dhEsam thiru-veLLiyan-kuDi boasted of sparkling lights even in the night. The lights radiated throughout making it difficult to comprehend that it is indeed night time and not the daytime helped by the sun rays. '

What was then the source of light? It is said the Singapore airport is illuminated brightly and passengers on transit stay thorughout the night and also the day enroute to other destinations. These are of-course made possible by the modern electrial gadgets.
Today being the thriunakshathiram of sri thriu-k-kachi nambigaL, the pUvirundhavalli kOil is illuminated bright on all sides with blinking lights and what not.

Coming back to the subject, the source of light then, there, was bright and precious stones. These varied from pearl, ruby, emerald and so on and were embedded on the pillars and like structures in thriu-veLLiyan-kuDi making it abstruse to conclude that it was indeed night and not bright sunny day.
