Dear srivaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

I seek your apology for I missed to include the following three slOkams while
pasting from my earlier write up 'hari dhaasulu' krithi, which celebrates the
success of raama against khara, the raakshasan. But I included the last slOkam
wherein seethaa embraces raama for the second time at the requestof the rishis
and munis assembled there. This scene of raama standing victorious, registering
a success over a dreaded raakshasa and seethaa embracing him with all pleasure
is worth recounting any number of times. So I include it again here.

sva Dharmam pracharishyanthi dhaNDakEshu maharshaya: |
Ethasmin anantharE veerO lakshmaNa: saha seethayaa || 3-30-37

maharshaya: = these great-sages;
dhaNDakEshu = in Dhandaka,
sva dharmam pracharishyanthi = will practice their own chores well
Ethasmin anantharE = while these talks were going on meanwhile
veera: lakshmaNa: saha seethayaa = brave, Lakshmana, with, Seetha.

Meaning: to raama these royal sages saying thus "Now, these great-sages will
practice their own chores in Dandaka forests", performed their thanksgiving.
Meanwhile the brave Lakshmana came along with Seetha.

giri dhurgaath vinishkramya samvivEsa aashramam sukhee |
thathO raama: thu vijayee poojyamaanO maharshiBhi: || 3-30-38
pravivEsha aasramam veerO lakshmaNEna aBhipoojitha: |

giri dhurgaath vinishkramya = lakshmana with seetha came out from the mountain
cave verily exited
aasramam sukhee samvivEsa = entered the hermitage happily
thatha: vijayee veera: raama: thu = then the brave and triumphant Rama
maharshiBhi: poojyamaana: = being worshipped by great-sages
lakshmaNEna aBhi poojitha: = and being worshipped by lakshmaNa
aashramam pravivesha = entered the hermitage.

Meaning: Verily coming out of the mountain cave, lakshmaNa with Seetha entered
the hermitage happily, and then that triumphant raama came towards hermitage
being worshipped by these great-sages. When raama, the brave one, entered the
hermitage, LakshmaNa was going towards him worshipfully.

tham dhrushtvaa sathru hanthaaram maharsheeNaam sukha aavaham || 3-30-39
baBhoova hrushtaa vaidhEhee bharthaaram parishasvajE | part of slokam 40

sathru hanthaaram tham dhrushtvaa = on seeing that enemy eliminator raamaa
maharsheeNaam sukha aavaham = raama the rejoice provider for great-sages
[rejoicer.]
vaidhEhee hrushtaa baBhoova = seethaa became exultant
bharthaaram parishasvajE = vaidhEhee embraced her husband raamaa

meaning: On seeing Raama, that rejoice provider to these great-saints,
vaidhEhee became exultant and with extreme exultancy embraced her husband.

Point is - Raama enjoys an embrace from his beloved wife, as the result of this
victory over the powerful enemy. Since we see after every win he gets some
prize - for this act of winning, what he gets as a prize is an "embrace from
wife" [that too in front of others].

Since the rishis wanted to see the divine couple together, she embraced
himagain, which is spelt in slOkam 41 [which we saw in post 8].

Now continuing the winning ways - a last lap victory - also the major one -of
killing raavaNa - the avathaara kaaryam in the raama avathaaram -

visruja asmai vadhaaya thvam asthram paithaamaham prabhO |
vinaasa kaala: kathithO ya: surai: sO~adhya varthathE || 6-108 -2

meaning: maathali the charioteer of king dhEvEndhran is suggesting raama - oh
my lord, please shoot out the brahmaasthram which will kill this [raavaNan].
That time which was spelt as his end has now reached.

tham uththamEshum lOkaanaam ikshvaaku bhaya naasanam |
dhvishathaam keerthi haraNam praharsha karam aathmana: || 6-108-13

meaning: then sri raama took in his hand that brahmaasthram being reminded
about by maathali - that brahmaasthram is capable of -----

point: from this third slOkam to thirteenth the description in detail aboutthe
capabilities of the brahmaasthram is given. Hence that portion is leftout.

stretching the bow to full so that it will blast the secrecy of his life.

weapon which can not be stopped, shot on the heart of raavaNan. It speedily
entered, opened the stout and firm body and heart of the wicked elementraavaNan.

meaning: that arrow after killing raavaNan, having drenched with blood entered
the earth. Like a servant after finishing the job given by the master the arrow
returned from earth to the quiver of raama.

meaning: the vaanaraas roared with lot of joy on the success of raama and
defeat of raavaNa.

athaantharikshE vyanadhath soumya: thridhasa dhundhubhi: |

nipapaatha antharikshaa: cha pushpa vrushti: thadhaa bhuvi |
kiranthee raaghava ratham dhuravaapaa manOharaa: || 6-108-28
raaghava: thava samyukthaa gaganE cha visusruvE |
saadhu saadhu ithi vaak agryaa dhEvathaanaam mahaathmanaam || 6-108- 29

meaning: then in the sky, the auspicious dhEva dhundhubi [musical instrument]
was played.[made noise]. The air blew across with good smell. On the chariot of
raama a very special flowery rains showered from the sky, which wasnot offered
to any others. In the sky the great souls dhEvaas said well well good good.

aavivEsa mahaan harshO dhEvaanaan chaaraNai: saha |

andwicked raavaNan.

thatha: sakaamam sugreevam aNgadham cha vibheeshaNam |

meaning: that raama made happy the king of vaanaraas, the prince angadha and
king vibheeshana by defeating raavaNa.

Point: By the defeat of raavaNa, the entire world rejoiced, the dhEvaas in sky,
the chaaranaas, the vaanaraas, vibheeshana the brother of raavaNa. Others
enjoyed Raamaa's success more than by him is clear from above. As it iscommonly
said raama raavana yudhdham is comparable only to itself and nothing else.

The important aspect in this victory is the bravery of raama and physical
strength in archery, the ease with which he is able to shoot arrows. What isthe
prize he got for this major victory? The answere is the 'kingdom'. Bravery
begets position.

To sum up
The very first victory over thaataka is by archery - prize to raama is special
asthrams and sasthrams.
Second victory is by beauty - over the people of ayOdhya and king janaka -
prize to raama is the beauty - seetha.
Third victory - is by seelam - good conduct - over people of ayOdhyaa - prize
to raama is - saadhu sangamam - association with people of good conduct

Fourth incidental victory - over khara - a casual one - so a casual prize -an
embrace from beloved wife and beauty seetha - that too since that kaamarahitha
soorpanakha said she is foxed by his beauty as well seethaa's beauty [ since
this khara killing is a result of kindling by soorpanakha].

Next major victory - the defeat of raavaNa - by bravery - defeat of a king - so
prize is also the raajyam - kingdom - which requires a lot of bravery to rule
continuously - for 11000 years - [besides release of seetha from the separation
and again leading to separation].

Dear bhakthaas of raama - see the "actions result in reactions" is amply proved
- the means of a success results in the prizes in same way.

Special Thanks are to sri Anjaneyalu of Itarsi, India, who gave this central
idea for the series, so that we can enjoy raamaa in a different angle. Thanks
to all readers also for their time and interest in this series.

Dhaasan
Vasudevan m.g.

PS: Of course few more victories like over vaali, viraadhan, kabhandhan
etccould be listed, besides victory over the naasthika vaadha jaabaali rishi -
but the prizes what raama got are not of much significance. The victory over
samudhra raajan is significant, since prize for raama is the access to
srilanka, a symbolic victory over the nature as he is the lord of all 5
bhoothaams - one of the 5 bhoothaas - the water. This is dealt in the krithi
saraNam raama by arunachala kavi and hence not included here.
