Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Dear bhAgavatas, An error crept in adiyEn's transliteration when writing the meanings of sutra 149. I inadvertently used "caraNam" instead of "sharaNam" in the sutra. This of course is a critical error and I seek all your forgiveness for the same. The sutra should read "The meaning of the word "sharaNam" is now explained. Its meaning is that it is the guaranteed means for gaining that which is seeked and avoiding that which is not wanted." apacArAnimAn sarvAn kshamasva purushOttama! adiyEn madhurakavi dAsan -- Sri Pillai Lokacharya's Mumukshuppadi Sutra: 156. upAyam avanAgaiyAlum ivai nErE upAyamallAmaiyAlum immUnRum vENumengiRa nirppanthamillai. Meaning: Because He is the means for the goal and the refuge seeked through the mind, word and body are not truly the means, the attachments performed by mind (mAnaSika), word (vAcika) and body (kAyika) are not necessary. Sri PBA Swami's Sarartha Deepikai: Is attachment through the mind alone sufficient? Is it not required to seek Him through mind, word and body ("sinthaiyAlum sollAlum seykaiyAlum dEvapirAnaiyE adaintha")? No, it is not required. Because the Lord who is seeked as the goal is also the means to reach Him. While the mind, word and body might appear on the surface as being means, they truly are not. For the goal to be reached, the necessary assent (to His protection) is sufficient.
