Srimathe Ramanuja Namaha

Brief introduction to the Hare Krishan Maha mantra

The chanting of Hare Krishna mantra is mentioned in the Kali-Santarana Upanishad in Krishna Yajur veda.

The mantra awards liberation (moksa) and there is no pre-requisite (like initiation, followiing of regulated principles, rules etc) attached to chanting this mantra.

Quote from K S Upanishad

Narada asked: ? O Lord, what are the rules to be observed with reference to it ?"
Brahma replied "There are no rules for it. Whoever in a pure or an impure state, utters these always, attains the same world of, or proximity with, or the same form of, or absorption into Brahman"

No sri vaisnava purvacharyas have mentioned the Hare Krishna mantra.
This mantra was popularlised by advaitin acharyas.

No, however advaitins and other Hindu sects are know to be doing it

Sri vaisnavism pioneered Hari nama nagara sankirtana, for instance during the month of margasisa the congregational street chanting of Tirupavai is performed.

Annamayyacharya who appeared 100 years before Chaitanya had composed many beautiful kirtanas in Telegu and propogated Hari Nama Sankitan.

You can raed more on Annamayacharya and down load his kirtans from this site

Chaitanya while in his trip to south India borrowed heavily from the south India.
Examples :
He discovered" Brahma Samhita buried in the Adi Kesava Perumal temple in Kanyakumari.

He took the south Indian mrdangam back with him to Puri and improvised it into  Bengali mrdanga.

The studied south Indian bhagavata tradition and developed it into the Bengali nama sankitana movement

And much more ....
