Dear bhagavathAs and bhakthAs,

yesterday adiyEn heared Thirupathi-Divyadesa vaibhavam
by SrI U.Ve.Velukkudi Krishnan Swamin(thro audio). In
that Swamin while mentioning about the mahAtmiyam of
kOnEri pushkarini (or Swamy Pushkarini), gave the
reasons for the birth of VibhIsna as Vishnu bhakthA
among his asura brothers. The legend goes like this..

Saraswati did penance for thousands of years to
attain the superior position than the Ganga. During
this time, Sage Pulastyar came on the way. Since
Saraswati was doing penance, she didnt noticed the
sage and gave due respects to him. So Pulastyar got
angry and cursed Saraswati that, for what purpose she
was doing penance, that could not be attained!

Now, Saraswati got fear after hearing the curse by
the maharishi, and she apologized for her mistake.
But the sage told that, once given he could not
withdraw the curse(sApam). Hence now Saraswati got
angry and cursed the Pulastya maharishi that, his
children would born as rAkshasas and they would be
against Lord Vishnu ("Vishnuvai virOthippargal").
Pulastya maharishi apologized Saraswati for his
mistake
on cursing her.

Now Saraswati, told maharishi that, "Eventhough all
the childrens were born as rAkshasAs, ONE would be
exception and HE would be bhakthA to Lord Vishnu"

So except vibhIshana, all other childrens Ravana, Kum
bhakarna, Soorpanaka,... were born as rAkshasAs and
became enemy to Lord Rama.

After this, how Saraswati attained the superior posi
tion than the Ganga is remaining part of Swamy
Pushkarini mahatmiyam of Tirupati-Divyadesa vaibhavam.

Adiyen, hopes that the information would be useful
for further clarification on why Vibhishana is bhaktA
among all other rAkshasa brothers, sister soorpanaka.

Similarly for most of other questions, the answer lies
in our poorvAchAryars vyAkyAnams and adiyEn requests
them to go through the books or upanyAsams.

adiyEn,
senthil.
