Namaskarams.
It is with deep regret that I bring to your notice that the chief battar known as 'Kudhirai Vahana battar' Sri U.Ve. S.R. Lakshmana Battar of Sri Alagar Kovil (Thirumal-irum-Cholai divyadesam)attained Acharyan thiruvadi on 21-feb-07, he was 79. He has performed many years of service to Lord Sri Azhagar also known as Sri Sundararaja perumal at Alagar koil, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
He had been the chief priest for over 60 years and did excellent archaga kainkaryam and led many samprokshnams, brahmotsavams, and the famous Chitirai festival, where Lord Sri Azhagar comes into Madurai Vaigai river on a golden horse to give moksham to Mandooka maharishi.
He accompanied the Lord on the golden horse in this festival and is famously called as 'kudhirai vagana battar' by devotees and people from all villages around Madurai.
May Lord Sri Azhagar give solace and strength to the bereaved family members and devotees to bear his loss.
adiyen,
Anand.
