Tom Hughes is the chief executive officer
(CEO) of Olympia Media, a diversified media company operating
in the mid-South. He wants to know how the corporation can exploit
opportunities in new media, given the phenomenal growth of the
Internet. To this end, the CEO has asked key managers to join
in a retreat to ponder opportunities and strategies to participate
in the explosive growth of the Internet. The CEO has also sent
this memo to the chief financial offcer, Eric Chernoff, asking
the CFO to outline some options for the discussions at the retreat.
