Earl Anderson: General Manager and Assistant Coach

Earl Anderson grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. He was always a hockey enthusiast, following the mighty Pittsburgh Hornets and, from beginning till present, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Earl has coached pony league baseball and women's softball while playing football, baseball, softball, and running track. Upon moving to North Carolina, Earl has coached one year of youth hockey, been involved in 15 years of adult hockey, and is in his 15th season as UNC's General Manager, Assistant Coach, Academic Advisor, and Director of Hockey Operations.

During the ACCHL Championships in February 2008, the ACCHL awarded Earl the "Lifetime Commitment to Hockey" Award. This award is for giving so much to ensuring the future of hockey in this region so that others may enjoy the greatest experiences on ice. In the words of former UNC Hockey President and Captain, Luke Russ:

"In over thirty years of UNC Hockey history, no one has put in more time, effort, or energy into sustaining the program than Earl Anderson. While the hockey team in Chapel Hill has undergone eight coaching changes since he arrived, Earl has always been ready to act in any way he was needed. For over a decade he has put in countless hours as General Manager, Assistant Coach, Academic Advisor, and Director of Hockey Operations. During this time Earl has recruited new talent, organized campus events, planned team trips, and helped to raise money for the team in numerous ways. Without Earl, UNC Hockey would not be the fast growing program that it is today. Few people, not only in the ACCHL but in the entire ACHA, have done more for their programs than Earl Anderson has for UNC."
