Photo #: NH 57940 Washington Navy Yard, D.C. View of the large ordnance storage yard in the northwestern part of the Navy Yard, taken by Brady & Company in June 1866. Among the many types of guns present are several XV" Dahlgren smoothbores in the lower left that appear to have been tested to destruction. Note the partially buried old guns used as decorative posts and the large number of projectiles stacked by the mortars in the left center. The photograph looks WNW from the west side of the present (1997) Building 33. The roof of the low building in the left background appears to have been the camera location for Photo #s NH 57932 and NH 57939. U.S. Naval Historical Center Photograph.
