After the Main Navy and Munitions Buildings were occupied,
during the last part of 1918 and the first months of 1919, a photographer
(or photographers) captured scenes of Navy Department personnel
at work. Dozens of the resulting images have been preserved in
the Naval Historical Center's photo collections, and are presented
on this page and those linked from it. None of these views is
precisely dated, and the identification of the offices photographed
was not recorded with the images. However, some can be dated and
at least roughly identified from calendars, books and other items
visible in the images. All-in-all, these photographs provide an
excellent depiction of the office arrangement, equipment and people
of the Navy bureaucracy at the end of World War I.
This page features selected views of miscellaneous offices inside the Main Navy and Munitions buildings, in 1918-1919.
