Hi Chris -

The purpose of "Symbiotic Mycorrhizal Fungi:
Quaterback of the Microbial Herd" was to
identify inoculant suppliers as well as point
to web-based educational and research information.

[Though, it is almost two years old so there
may be a few suppliers not listed.]

It has a list of notable textbooks and chapters
in books. But I'd say the free articles listed
on the web have sufficient information to provide
background information on mycorrhizae.

Well, I have other web based resources supplemental
to those listed, so there are other sites worth knowing
about... but I doubt they make any difference.

To gain understanding of mycorrhiza, you can rely on
the articles written by Ted St. John, Robert Linderman,
David Sylvia, Forest Nursery Notes, The Container Tree
Nursery Manual, Alex Shigo, Craig Elevitch, etc.

Yet, a gap exists between interesting facts and knowledge
about mycorrhizae and how they funcation in the
ecosystem (which is the bulk of mycorrhizal literature)....
and ... results-based agricultural data that show how well
mycorrhizal inoculants perform in the landscape, nursery,
gardening, and farming.

Some results-based data exists in the literature
of journals like HortScience.

In the end, I think you have to rely on common
sense. Talk to the suppliers and get some material
and work with it. Use it the way it will work best,
early in the life cycle of the plant (seed, seedling,
transplant) to encourage root symbiosis.

If some people are doing coring and sporing, then
I'm interested. But it has to be practical. What
is the benefit and goal to established perennials?
How does that compare to good quality compost and
compost teas... foliar feeding.... etc.

Regards,
Steve Diver
