Yo!

Made it to Soil Foodweb Inc. Corvallis, OR.

Mr. Bob Norsen and I drove down from Seattle today(I flew in on a red eye from ANC, Wed). We are taking a SFI Course this weekend; Soil Biology and Chemistry. Stoked!

We arrived and were graciously accomodated by Dr. Ingham and her staff (caught them just about quitten time and they let us continue about our business, aint they just great; cat's meow).

They have a space at the lab for visitors who want to conduct research. So we said some hellos and began about our work; we have some q's so we set up some experiments so we can make observations and hopefully retrieve some qualitative and quantifiable and useable data with which to make decisions on future endeavors. Cool. Super Stoked. Fun. We worked strait thru supper. Our hotel made us peanut butter sandwhiches when we checked in at 9pm. Sweeties.

Really generous of SFI. The weekend aught to be tremendous; between the participants, learning opportunities and classroom lectures, lab experiences and field exercises. Truly blessed. We look forward to reporting more on this, soon.

For now I have enclosed some pics which should serve well to highlight Bob and my Big Friday Nite in Corvallis at the Lab.

Tech Weenie:
We have so far activated four samples of compost (4 Cups each, each has recieved an addition of 4oz Organic Oatmeal and 4oz H2O and is sitting on an electric seed germination mat <lookfor white boxes on table, will send pics in 48Hrs>); two of which are Alaska Humus, one is Ground Up and one is North Country Organics. We started three, 10G brews using Bob's Bitti Brewers; one with AH, one GU and one NCO (each are 4Cup measurements <next time we will measure by weight?> each has recieved an addition of 2oz of fish hydrolosate). The brew water started at 80degF, approx 8.0DO, pH? (maybe we can measure this tomorrow from the source?) degassed for 45min (tap water, chlorinated muni H20).

DO is being monitored thru the brew cycle, for what it is worth, since DO meters are seemingly not performing up to spec at this time. Hopefully SFI can be of assisstance with this; I suspect maintenance must be perfored on the probes or Meters are fatily flawed (small chance of pilot error!)

Hopefully a test will be possible tomorrow? Make it part of the class?

I look forward to our coming experiences with our fellow students. We will keep you informed. Maybe Bob will write next, seeing as he is getting all the shut eye now!

Make yourself a great day!

~Kev
ps
On Sunday we will make similar batches using two-day Activated material. Test on Monday.
