Good point from Wayne - Alaska Humus is not peat. I hope that was clear from the previous post. AH has to be removed in order to build on sites, since the consistency of feet thick layers of AH has rather jello-like qualities. In a place like Alaska, that has some whopping earthquakes, you have to build on solid ground. So, off with the humus layer! Much better to sell it to people who need the humus than to put it in the landfill!
