There are only a few bacteria that consume other bacteria, and most of those bacteria that prey upon other bacteria are found in aquatic systems, as I recall. Not normal soil denizens.

But you are correct about the other points. Molasses in of and by itself does not "cause" E. coli to grow. How could it?
