Many fungi produce mushrooms when they undergo sexual reproduction. Could have been in the wood chips, but much more likely the fungi came from the compost tea.

Peat moss is usually pasteurized by law. Any peat moss from a foreign country has to be at least pasteurized as I understand USDA regs. So the peat moss you buy is mainly just a fungal food, maybe a few spores of some fungi survive pastuerization.
