[compost_tea] What's the problem with dormant spores?

I've seen Dr Ingham write disparagingly a few times about plate
counts of dormant spores. I realize active microbes are ready to go
right now, but what are the problems with spraying a few trillion
spores of beneficial microbes?

There are some spore products on the market with a pretty strong
repeat customer base. The manufacturers don't seem to be trying to
hide anything (that I can tell). I have test data on order from one
mgfr.
