Re: [compost_tea] Tilling is sometimes necessary!
Hi Oliver,
If your land is wet & soggy shalow cultivations will not help a great deal.=
You need a sub soiler going down 50-70+cm.an implement such as a Shaketator=
is ideal. This can be used on grass land without disturbing the sward.
Lots of compost is ideal.
Regards.

Hi yield,
Yes i agree with that
sometimes the soil(escpecialsy the clayie soil i have) will get so compac=
ted.ect and stay wet and soggy for so long that all the seed/plants just ro=
t.and when it dries its either rock hard or and unwettible powder.
but since weve started adding some manure and other compost it getting be=
tter more hummusy and fluffy and not so clayie and compacting
thanks

Oliver,
Sometimes the only way to break up heavy colloidal sized particles of
soil is to till in coarser materials. I'm talking about the physcial
properties of the soil not microbial!! Whether you add it in the
spring or fall only depends on how well composted it is and what works
best for you. Tilling twice a year, spring and fall will not
completely destroy your SFW. After all what good are the microbes if
they have nothing to feed on and are waterlogged because of poor
drainage?? Take care Hi_Yield.
