Subject: Compost heaps in gardens and copper

Hi all .Another terrible day in Africa.Temp only managed high 30 degrees C
Ha Ha Any way just a couple of chirps on some previous posts.
Rick (Dakesian) how big is the area that you are growing on? I ask because
it seems that you really should find space for a compost heap. .There is no
better spot for many of the goodies that you are feeding raw right now .Let
a heap digest these treats and then serve up this feast. And there is no
better place to take a slash. If guys come to a cook out at my place then
they are verbally abused if they should venture indoors to take a leak
rather than on the heap.Even better onto the most recent bits first.Urine is
recognised as a great compost activator.
I have made compost in as small as 200 liter containers which is difficult
to do really well unless you use worms,up to 2 miles of commercial compost
at a time .No matter how big or small the garden or farm there is always
somewhere for a heap to fit in.
You will be amazed how how quickly an efficent heap can get through
material. They are great places to learn and observe the little guys at
work.Come on make space for a heap You wont be sorry.
The only alternative to copper that I can recall and I am sure Steve Diver
can expand on this, the great Victor Schuberg (Sp?) suggested using a copper
clad plow in one of his spiral shapes and I often wondered how much copper
would the soil take up.
I had to mention to hiyeild that if he can find brown spots on a 50m2 bit of
lawn if front of our kitchen door that gets two large dogs peeing on it
every day and every night at about 3or 4 I let them out agin for a leak and
sometimes join them( my heap is about 25 mtere away from the house) if you
can find browning on that lawn I will give you a case of my home brewed beer
or wine from the local celler. No S H one T.All that lawn has had is the
spills from my tea when applying to the rest of the garden ,some EM and
compost .There is a very visible line where I drew a line with tea a couple
of times. We dont have access to a lab yet so I test on myself .It uses less
water than the rest and grows irratatingly fast.
So much for a quick chirp .....
