GOOD Compost is a true bargain at any price. Bob . =

This is 100% true. Compost alone will not solve many problems facing the h=
omeowner and ag in general. What has to change is the mental processes tha=
t are a result of a lifetime of propaganda by the chemical industry. Even =
the way we think about organics is colored by processes developed by the ch=
emical industry. Anybody who took ag in school learned the "rigtht" way wh=
ich was the chemical way. Nonchemical approaches are labeled as "touchy fe=
ely" because the hard data we are supposed to rely on -- that is a product =
of the the chemical way of thinking -- is often in contradiction to what is=
really happening in the soil. Levels of NPK we are taught are necessary a=
re the results of the chemical industry propaganda and amount to overfeedin=
g for the most part. I have witnessed healthier turf in soil with less NPK=
. Now how is that happening? It's the biology. There is no other explana=
tion. The chemical industry is ill equiped to deal with something as amorp=
hous as microbe ion exchange, CEC and enzymes because they can't be quantif=
ied in the same way as chemicals.

Bayer has a new line of fertilizers and I stopped to take a look at the con=
tents. The root zone they show as "healthy" on the bags is 3 to 4 inches f=
or turf. I repeat THREE to FOUR inches. They show how the product feeds t=
his root zone. You know, with Viagra and Elavil? being so pupular for erec=
tile disfunction, I see a time when the chemical indiustry will have a chem=
ical for "Root Penetration Disfunction." Just use this "chemical" and your=
roots will grow longer. I imagine the commercials will have happy, smilin=
g women mowing the lawn while their hubbies rest in the hammocks with their=
huge feet hanging over the side. Every once in a while, the wives who are=
mowing the lawns pass each other and wink.
