Hi Woodchuck good name. Real or adopted? Yes according to all the data I have gathered over the past 8 years concentrating much of my life to the subject and studying with many who have given almost all of their lives to the subject - your bag of compost in a bucket is not right. It may actually benefit your plants but also exposes them and you and yours to some hazard. The benefit can be much greater is suitable aeration is included. A good air pump injecting air under the bag added to what you do would come close. There are low cost sytems almost that simple designed to do more than that and get more good from the compost, add nutrients and benefit your garden much more than with what you are doing.

There are many places to learn about the subject. This list will have ideas and information. Much faster would be to go to web sites designed to help you understand AERATED compost TEA. Try mine if you wish, www.bobsbrewers,com . There is some information there wrtten in plain english with essentially no science speak. I don't know much so I can't speak it. There are several links in my site that have even better explanations. And each of those links will have links. When you are done with the study you will be ahead of many of us on the list.

And Woodchuck, please stay with us on the net. Your questions will help all of us learn. Bob.

My name is Woodchuck an I'm new to the group, I have
made compost tea in the past just by putting some
compost into some cheese cloth and thrown into a 5
gallon bucket and letting it sit for a couple days...
After reading my first digest I'm confused, you make
it sound very difficult... Is what i was doing wrong?
I don't understand the fungal and bacterial thing in
compost, I guess i need someone to explain things to
me in English and not scientific speak... I
continually compost and always thought i was doing
good... I am also confused about the fungus in the
compost pile... Will someone please help me? thank
you.... Woodchuck
