What kind of preservative is it?

You can add small amounts into compost at the beginning of the composting
cycle.

You could try seeing what effect it has on compost tea. Make a batch of tea,
look at the tea through the little microscope, and do a qualitative
assessment of the organisms.

Then, add some of the aloe to the tea, and see if the organisms are harmed.
Add mor ealoe until you do see a negative effect. You then know how much can
be added before the preservative has an effect.
