Basically, the idea is to cover all plant surfaces with bacteria and fungi
so that the infective propagule of the rust cannot gain access to plant
surfaces.
 
Additionally, improve plant health, by improving nutrient cycling in the
soil, root depth, and soil processes, so the plant is not stressed and
susceptible to diseases. To improve soil health, we need to get the biology back into
the soil.
 
It is good to get bio-control agents on to the leaf surface, so the insects
that carry the infectious particles do not spread the disease. Particular
bacterial and fungal species, documented by testing that the EPA approves,
repel or parasitize the vectors of fungal diseases. These bio-control agents are
useful additions to compost tea.
 
As far as I am aware, however, no one has done replicated scientific testing
on the ability of compost tea to reduce Asian rust.
 
Getting an understanding of which of these various mechanisms for
interaction with the diseases is operating when it comes to Asian rust is important.
 
Would it be possible for you to implement a testing program with your local
University? Test tea in an area of your fields to determine effectiveness
for interaction with rust?
