If there is enough organic matter on the surface and in the soil,
eventually the soil foodweb will re-establish itself. Fungi and
bacteria are ubiquitous, spores will blow into the area, bird droppings
etc all help establish the base and on it goes. The question really
should be "how long will it take?"
