The following are highlights of the morning birdwalk at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park located on US highway 17 in Ravenel, SC led by Perry Nugent at
8:30 am.
October 26, 2002
68 species were seen and/or heard. The most interesting were; 4 Pied-billed
Grebes, 1 Green Heron, 1 Wood Stork, 6 Mottled Ducks, 1 Bald Eagle, 3
Sharp-shinned Hawks, 2 Cooper's Hawks, 1 Red-tailed Hawks, 3 Red-shouldered
Hawks, 1 American Kestrel, 2 Merlins, 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 7 House
Wrens, 2 Marsh Wrens, 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 2 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 2 hermit Thrushes, 2 American Pipits, 6 Northern
Parula Warblers, 2 Black-throated Blue Warblers, 300+ Yellow-rumped
Warblers, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, 4 Palm Warblers, 3 Black-and-white
Warblers, 1 immature Blue Grosbeak, 40 immature Indigo Buntings, and 1
female Painted Bunting.
