Carolina Birders:
The Barnacle Geese were seen again today (Sun., 12/5/00) by several people.
So far there is no indication as to their origin. They are unrestrained, but
so far I know of no one who has seen them flying. They are associating with a
large mixed flock of wild (feral) Canada Geese, Mallards, and a few
Buffleheads, as well as a couple of domestic white geese.
There was no snow in this part of Guilford Co. today, so travel conditions
will not be a problem for anyone who wants to see these birds. Here are the
directions for finding them: From I-40 in Greensboro, take the High Point
Road exit south toward the city of High Point. Pass through the intersection
of Hilltop/Groometown Road and continue south, watching on the left for a
sign for the King's Mill Sedgefield subdivision. Turn left into the
subdivision on King's Mill Road. Take the next left onto King's Pond Road.
The pond is 200 or 300 yards down the road on the right at the intersection
of King's Pond and Old Scotney Ct.
