wrens

Hi y'all,
Xmas eve, had to escape from the family thing, so wandered around New
Rd. for awhile. Nothing truly exceptional, but had nice views of Carolina,
House, Winter and Marsh wrens, including a nifty example of how easily a
Winter Wren may be overlooked. An individual was hastened by one of its
larger cousins from an area where it was foraging and flew across a drainage
ditch to within 6' (too close for my binos) of where I was standing. For the
next 5 mins. it foraged underneath a 6 inch canopy of weed stalks covered
with leaf litter literally at my feet. The occasional movement of a twig,
that could just as easily have been caused by the constant breeze, was the
only indication of the little bird's presence. A cpl of times it paused in
more thinly covered spots to look up at me, only to disappear again under
the debris. It finally surfaced completely a few feet away and flew back
across the ditch to continue on its merry way.

Cheers,
Gary
