Hi Carolinabirders,
Paul Rogers and I went to Huntington Beach S.P. in Georgetown County, SC
on Sunday. We birded the causeway, Sandpiper Pond, and the carriage path.
Finally a good number of waterfowl. About 55 species.

Pied-billed Grebe-1
Brown Pelican-40
Double-crested Cormorant-12
Great Blue Heron-23 a large number in Mullet Pond
Great Egret-6
Tricolored Heron-2
White Ibis-2
MUTE SWAN-1 probably a feral bird from a local population.
Green-winged Teal-5
Gadwall-10
Am. Wigeon-35
Canvasback-5 Sandpiper Pond
Redhead-14 some in Mullet & Sandpiper Pond
Ring-necked Duck-1 in Sandpiper Pond
Scaup sp-1 in Sandpiper Pond
Bufflehead-2
Hooded Merganser-86
Ruddy Duck-6
Bald Eagle-1 adult perched in the pines overlooking Mullet Pond
N. Harrier-1
YELLOW RAIL-1 Paul saw this bird first and I had two brief views of a small
straw colored rail as it scooted through the marsh grass and then along the
edge of the marsh. Not much bigger than a large sparrow. Stubby bill. I
can't imagine anything else this bird could have been. This was from the
carriage path in the marsh on the south side about 20 yards west of the
point where the water control structure is located.
Virginia Rail-1 heard only
Sora-1 well seen
Common Moorhen-5
Am. Coot-82-all but two in Sandpiper Pond. Maybe they got weary of being
picked off by the Eagle at Mullet Pond.

Semipalmated Plover-2
Killdeer-3
Greater Yellowlegs-2
Lesser Yellowlegs-1
Willet-7
Sanderling-1 on the beach at the North parking lot area
