Hello:
Previously I had sent a quick general email indicating that I was looking
for a naturalist instructor who could teach periodic Introduction to
Birdwatching classes at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh. I wanted to clarify
some more points about the position, since many of you had additional
questions.
To begin with, this would be a part-part-time position, meaning that we
would offer one class a month - running for 6 - 7 months. The class that
we envisioned would run 3 - 5 hours [on a Saturday]. We are looking for
an enthusiastic, knowledgeable person who could put together an
interesting Introduction to Birding [or something similar] class. Our
policy is that we normally pay the instructor anywhere between 50 - 60%
of the total revenue generated by the class. If we charge $50 per person
and sign up 15 students...well, you do the math.
We have an excellent location here and our unique Waterfront Program
Center has a superb classroom to augment the academic portion of things.
Please understand that I am strong conservationist myself and desire to
introduce as many of these types of classes as possible. The only
qualification is that they be interesting enough to draw enough folks to
register. We're not looking for something complex that may sound
wonderful on paper, yet not draw any folks at all.
I would also entertain other naturalist types of classes that might have
to do with lakes and ponds. I am looking for folks interested in
teaching these part-time classes.
Many exciting and wonderful things are going to transpire at Lake Wheeler
over the next year or so. We're getting better and the City Council is
making some major changes to protect the natural resource that is Lake
Wheeler.

Thanks for listening....
