Hi Carolinabirders,
The female Rufous Hummingbird was still coming to my feeders yesterday. I
finally got some decent photos, which should at least be identifiable to
genus, although I still couldn't get a good shot of the tail pattern.
Brown Creeper returned to the suet a few more times as well; no sign of
the Red-shouldered Hawk this time though. And the Barred Owls, which were
calling at 10 AM a week ago, are silent now; maybe sitting on eggs, or
feeding young?
As another chapter in the ongoing National Audubon Society saga,
apparently NAS has cancelled several listservs without warning or
explanation, including a Mexican birding listserv and a couple of Texas-
based lists. This news was posted on CarolinaLeps by a friend of mine
from Texas. The Virginia birding list, which I think is also run by NAS,
is still up and running for now...
So, I've got a wedding to attend in late May in California, specifically
Santa Rosa. It's just north of San Francisco, I think in Sonoma County.
Anyone have experience or recommendations for this area at that time of
year? I'll be heading there from the LRGV, where the second annual
"Dragonfly Days" festival is happening May 18-20; and the weekend before
that, I'll be up in Massachusetts for my nephew's bar mitzvah. It's
shaping up to be a busy, high-mileage May!
Good birding,
Josh
