Brewster in a pensive mood
Back in Chapel Hill and on my way to pick up Brewster Kahle who’ll be giving the Commencement speech to the School of Information and Library Science today in a few hours. Brewster’s archive.org and his work with the Open Content Alliance are just two of the many things which we’ll recognize and appreciate.
Nice that the cover article in the New York Times Magazine today is Kevin Kelly’s “Scan this Book!” (a play, chillen, on Abbie Hoffman’s “Steal this Book!”) which has this great quote from Brewster:

“This is our chance to one-up the Greeks!” [Brewster Kahle] shouts. “It is really possible with the technology of today, not tomorrow. We can provide all the works of humankind to all the people of the world. It will be an achievement remembered for all time, like putting a man on the moon.”
