Steve and I were AIMing about the Flying Spaghetti Monster. He (Steve not the FSM) said he thought the FSM was like Cthulhu. I said I thought that the various Lovecraft monsters were frog-like and that HPL used a word beginning with BA to describe that froglikeness, but I couldn’t remember the word.
Steve later reminded me – batrachian!. I always think of HP Lovecraft when I hear or see that word.
Not all of Lovecraft’s creations were frog-like, and I recall batrachian applied to some but not all of them. But the correct word finally came to me. I wish I’d correctly remembered batrachian when I wrote bactrian – like all good conversations I only remembered ten minutes later while I was driving back across the Triangle.
I published evidence in the form of a discovered letter from one Cthulhu cultist to another regarding the success of the FSM as the warm, cuddly, modern face of Cthulhu last month.
