permanent deposits

What is the thinking today about so-called "permanent deposits?" Do the
courts recognize such an animal? Once acquired, do we have to treat them
differently than donations? Do I need to consider having them converted to
donations in the same way I would work to have regular deposits converted to
donations?

Thanks, as always, Lee
