Data Archivist Job Opportunity:

Center for Economic Studies
U.S. Bureau of the Census
Washington, DC

The Center for Economic Studies (CES) is an internal research institute
within the U.S. Bureau of the Census. CES was established to encourage
and support the analytic needs of researchers and policy makers
throughout government, academia, and business. CES develops and
maintains research microdatabases from Census collected data (see
www.census.gov/cecon/www/ces.html for more information on CES).

CES is currently both expanding its data archival activities and
initiating a significant electronic documentation project (eLib). CES
seeks a qualified electronic data archivist to manage and support these
activities.

CES anticipates one opening in 2000 subject to budgetary approval.
Primary responsibilities will include ascertaining user documentation
needs, developing and maintaining the electronic documentation library
(eLib), liaison with other units of the Census Bureau to locate and
retrieve historical documentation, and development and management of CES
data archive.

Successful candidates should possess strong communication and
organizational abilities and some familiarity with HTML authoring
software. Familiarity with social science research is an asset, but not
a requirement.

All applicants seeking permanent appointments must be U.S. citizens
(permanent visa status is not acceptable). Applicants should submit a
resume to Chair, Archivist Search Committee, Center For Economic
