Come to the Beautiful Texas Hill Country! Austin,
Texas is known for its lakes, parks, music, high
tech/college town vitality and its award winning
libraries.  Join a team of dedicated, energetic
librarians.  We are looking for dynamic,
customer-focused, community-oriented, creative
candidates for the following positions:

LIBRARIAN II

Coordinate archives and manuscript work unit
including leading  preservation activities,
collections management activities, and supervising
the work of volunteers at the History Center.
Locate, evaluate, acquire, manage, organize, and
prepare collections for storage and access by the
public.  Assist researchers with the use of the
History Center facilities, materials, electronic
information sources, public access Internet
stations, and plan and provide outreach and
special  programs to the community.  Understand
and apply archival principles to the management of
the archives, manuscripts, and architectural
archives collections of the History Center.
Interpret and explain library and City policies to
the public and staff, revising, as appropriate,
policies and procedures to ensure that all systems
are functional and consistent with up to date
standards in the field.  Answer customer
questions, address customer complaints, and
provide direct customer assistance at information
desks, over the telephone, and via Internet and
e-mail services.

Note to Applicant: Certification from the Academy
of Certified Archivists preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library
Science plus two (2) years experience as a
professional Librarian

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to stoop,
bend, walk, and reach heights of up to six (6)
feet.  Must be able to push loaded book truck
weighing up to 300 pounds.  Must have manual
dexterity to operate computer keyboard.

Salary:   Commensurate plus excellent benefits!

Hours:   8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

LIBRARIAN III

Under general direction, supervise the daily
activities of the public services unit of the
Austin History Center.  Hire, train, coach, and
evaluate public services staff members.  Provide
in-depth reference service to the public.  Manage
(appraise, conserve, catalog) the periodical and
map collections of the Austin History Center.
Communicate in person and by telephone with
customers.  Develop, implemented, and interpret
policies and procedures for public services.
Manage the Austin History Center’s electronic
indexing program for newspapers.  Represent the
Austin History Center in Library, City, and
community activities.

Minimum Qualifications:  Master’s degree in
Library Science plus three (3) years experience as
a professional librarian, one of which was in a
lead or supervisory capacity.

Physical Requirements: Physical dexterity to
operate computer equipment. Lift boxes and
equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Bend, reach, and
stoop to retrieve materials.

Salary Range:   Commensurate plus excellent
benefits!
Hours:   Monday 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m.;
Tuesday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Rotate
Sundays
