Re: Digital Photographs & Finding Aids

After reading this, I sent an e-mail to the head of our photography department to verify that we will be taking photos of a major construction project that began two days ago (I've only been working here for eight months, and thought we probably would, but wanted to be sure). Aside from saying that yes, we would be photographing, she suggested that you check out the Multi-Mimsy 2000 image storage program from Oracle.

I am archivist at a community college which is currently undergoing a fairly
large construction project. I've recently received a ZIP disk full of
digital photographs taken weekly to document the construction progress and
I'm struggling with how to provide access to the photos, how to preserve
them, and what kinds of finding aids to prepare. The college is putting
weekly updates on construction progress along with some of the photos on
their webpage, but that information won't be around in that format for more
than a few more years. I have an MS Access database that we use for
cataloging visual materials. I have been using ACDSee software to view the
photos and print out pages of thumbnails. We don't have the resources to
catalog each photo individually, or to print the images on photograph quality
paper.

What is the best way to work with this variety of electronic records and
formats: the digital photos on the disk, the web-based documentation, our
Access visual materials database, the ACDSee viewing software, and then
produce finding aids (paper and on our website). Any suggestions?
