Material Culture Catalogues

The Winterthur Museum in Delaware has an extensive near-complete collection of trade and manufacturing catalogues for almost anything made in the U.S. The entire set is available in a microprint edition, and some large libraries within RLIN have purchased the set (I have not checked recently, but last I knew the full set cost $25,000) and may be able to make portions of it available on interlibrary loan. The recent discussions on the list regarding manufacturers or trade catalogues made me think that perhaps archivists are not as familiar with this valuable research tool as museum staff and material culture specialists. I do not have the exact citation for the collection, but even a sales brochure for the collection listing the different industries and products for which catalogues are available might be a useful reference to have around for archivists who get questions of this nature regarding research on material culture.
