Re: Building design and planning - advice needed

I agree with Carol - moveable shelving is a much more efficient use of your
floor space. It can be configured for hanging file folders as well as flat
shelving, so if you need a mixture of the two, AND you have some $$, this
would be a good way to go. A company rep (SpaceSaver did ours) can do a
site visit & draw up a plan with as many options as you need and it won't
cost you a cent. ttfn - Jill.

have you presented the idea of replacing the file cabinets with fixed or
movable shelving?
Shelving would certainly increase the storage space per square foot of
floor space, and
would make better use of the available space. I can see things such as
vertical
files working better being in a file cabinet. But materials of a kind and
quantity which would be efficiently stored in letter- or legal-size
archival storage
boxes (whether 2-1/2 inch or 5-inch boxes, or cartons) would be better
stored on
shelving. I store smaller units on shelving in expandable manuscript
envelopes. There would be some initial added expense of new archival
boxes, etc. but a better use of the space.
In addition, when visiting poobahs and other folks come in, shelving with
archival boxes has a very nice appearance. It would reflect well on you as
well as your committee, and show they "know what they're doing" when it
comes to taking care of important records.
