Committee gets records to aid in academic-fraud probe

A University of Tennessee professor handed over records of 39 athletes
Tuesday to a faculty committee investigating allegations of academic fraud
in the school's athletic department.
Linda Bensel-Meyers also turned over the records, which show more than 100
grades were changed for players, to UT President J. Wade Gilley, who met
with her Monday night.
"We're going to look into everything that she's got," Gilley said.

HAZARD The state auditor's office released a stinging report yesterday,
calling records from a former Perry County Fiscal Court ``unauditable''
because of incomplete and inaccurate information.
It's the first time in at least 25 years that state auditors have been
unable to express an opinion about a county's fiscal state because of poor
record-keeping, State Auditor Ed Hatchett said.
``The situation is deplorable,'' Hatchett said.

PROVIDENCE -- The insurance industry inched forward yesterday in its effort
to insulate itself from lawsuits when the House yesterday approved
legislation that would place the records of one small corner of the industry
off-limits to the public and trial lawyers.
