It may behoove you to go the thesis route for the official archival
certification. In today's competive enviroment, and with so may archives
being part of a university library system the trend seems to be towards
MLS or other offical degree programs. Although you appear to have
adequate work experience the desirablity of formal certification/education
may make you more marketable.
I have seen numerous job postings that require only a master's in history,
or related fields, but, have also noticed the trend towards preference for
a Certified Archivist. Its a tough call, and depends upon your career
objectives, but in my opion, more is better.
