Re: Processing Priority Criteria

At the University of Connecticut, we made a decision to have only two
processing priorities: High Priority and In the Queue. For those
collections in the queue, we establish processing priorities as
follows: Each planning year, curators supply a list of the
collections they would like to see processed, based on donor and use
information within their own curatorial areas. This list is
submitted to the curator whose particular functional duty includes
processing. After considering student, volunteer, grant personnel,
and curatorial staff time, she decides what will be processed and
when. The only change we make in the list is if a collection arrives
that is considered a true "high priority." That collection will be
pushed to the top.

In addition, each curator maintains a "wish list" of collections they
would like to see processed. If time and staff permit during the
year, they are worked into the processing stream. When processing
money comes along with a collection, additional staff are hired to
process the collection.
